The "Chemical Synthesis and Processing of Materials" group, headed by Professor Mufit Akinc, works on various aspects of structural ceramics, bioceramics, rheology of nanoparticles,  and polymer composites. 

Current research projects include design, processing, and characterization of transition metal silicides with high oxidative stability; mineralization of hydroxyapatite on self-assembling polymer templates; formation, structure and morphology of inorganic particles; environmentally benign repair of composites.
