Grants and Contracts

  • McCallum R.W., & Russell, A.M., U.S. Department of Energy, Oakland Operations Office, Weapons Research Division, March, 1998 to March, 1999, "Development of Functionally Graded Materials for Enhancement of High Temperature Performance of Nd-Fe-B based Permanent Magnets" This project will determine diffusion coefficients for various rare earth metals in Nd-Co-Fe-B permanent magnets that may raise the Curie temperature of the magnet without reducing coercivity. ($165,000 - Administered by IPRT)
  • McCallum, R.W., & Jiles, D.C., US Department of Energy, Office of Basic Energy Sciences, 10/01/97-9/30/98, "Tailored microstrucutres for permanent magnets." The objective of this project is to study synthesis and processing of hard magnetic materials to improve their magnetic properties via microstructural development. This project is aimed at improving the understanding of the relationship between microstructure and magnetic proPerties through the development of magnetic models and computer simulations of the material. (Administered by Ames Laboratory).
  • McCallum, R. W. & Gschneidner, K. A., Institute for Physical Research and Technology, 07/01/98-06/30/99, "Center for Rare Earths and Magnetics." These funds are to support travel and various efforts to initiate research on rare earth materials and various magnetic materials, including permanent magnets, magnetostrictive and magnetocaloric compounds and alloys. (Administered by Institute for Physical Research and Technology.)
