    Project sponsored by Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. This interdisciplinary program included seven principal investigators and 14 graduate students in five departments in the College of Engineering and the College of Sciences & Humanities. The program includes electronic and ionic conductivity in ceramic crystals, acoustoelectric coupling in piezo-electric crystals, creep in rutile and periclase, neutron activation analysis of ceramic materials, creep and internal friction of sodium chloride, infrared and sorption isotherm analysis of glass surface vapor interaction, electron microprobe analysis of diffusion in ceramic oxides, single crystal growth by the arc-transfer technique, the kinetics of sintering and surface doped strengthening of alumina.
  • 1960-67 Research in mechanical properties of NaCl including internal friction, grain boundary energy, grain boundary yield points as a function of bicrystal orientation, F center migration and transmission electron microscopy sponsored by U.S. Army Research Office (Durham)
